Quoting in detail

All the details for creating an quote or quote with DXF/DWG files in ToolBox.

Creating a quote within ToolBox

To create a quote (or quote) within ToolBox select "+ Create Quote" from the dashboard, which can be accessed by selecting the ToolBox logo at the top left of any screen you are in within the ToolBox app.

This will open the quote screen within ToolBox, so you can start processing and calculating your parts.

Using the quote screen features

After creating a new quote (or quote), the default view is the "parts" tab. This is where we can start working on our quote.

To help you understand the quoting screen more please see below:

In the quoting screen you have the following sections:

  1. Customer/contact data.

    • A customer and contact can be selected from the list of existing data or you may add a new customer or contact from this screen.

  2. Quote number

    • From here you can edit the quote number and select the relevant customer and contact for this quote you are working on.

    • RFQ number: Request for quote number.

  3. Quote expiry date.

    • Enter a date on which the quote will expire.

  4. Shipping option and required by date.

    • Select from pickup or delivery. Enter a date on which the customer requires the order to be delivered.

  5. Adding a part

    • Select how the part is to be added to the quote. Note, a customer (step 1) must be selected in order to retrieve a part from the 'Part Library'.

  6. The part will appear in this position once uploaded.

Uploading your DXF/DWG files

To upload your DXF/DWG files into the quote (or quote) you will need to do either of the following options:

  1. Drag and drop the files directly from another window, folder or email you have into the upload screen of your ToolBox quote.

Once you have uploaded the required files into ToolBox the drawing geometry will now appear in the ToolBox quote screen. You will also see the list of drawings loaded along with a status symbol, which will indicate whether there are any issues with the drawing that needs fixing or whether the drawing is good for quoting.

Calculating a quote

ToolBox will automatically update and calculate a quote when material and thickness is added or when the quantity is changed in any of the parts.

Assigning material and quantity data to your parts

Once your files have loaded into ToolBox you may use the menus to specify the material and quantity data for the parts. The material and quantity data can be selected and specified for each part under the "Setting" section.

Applying your material and quantity data to a part can be done individually (as above) or you may select multiple parts at a time in bulk. To do this, use the collapse icon:

Use 'Select All' to select all parts in the quote or place a tick on each of the parts.

  1. Use 'Select All' to select all parts in the quote or tick each of the required parts.

  2. Click the 'Edit' icon.

  3. Select the cutting technology, material, thickness and then sheet size. If the selected parts have the same quantity then enter the required number.

  4. Update and calculate the quote.

The quote calculates and updates:

There are further options within the part container which can be used within ToolBox, these are as follows:

  • Units switch

    • Set the system of measurement that should be used when interpreting this part.

    • If the part's dimensions should be in millimetres, set the units to millimetres.

    • If the part's dimensions should be in inches, set the units to millimetres.

  • Customer supplied

    • This option allows you to change whether this part is being quoted from your own material supply/stock or whether the customer you are preparing this quote for is supplying the material to you. This will alter how the material price for the part is calculated and whether a handling charge for the customer material needs to be applied to the part.

  • Consumption mode

    • This switch allows you to change how much material will be charged for when quoting this part.

    • If set to Whole Sheet, the full sheet area is divided by the number of parts that will fit on the sheet to determine how much to charge for.

    • If set to Nest Bounds, any strips of the remnant that would be produced from a fully nested sheet will not be charged. The nest area of a fully nested sheet is divided by the number of parts that will fit on the sheet to determine how much to charge for.

    • Click this icon to view a detailed summary of the part pricing

The data detailed within the Calculator tab is as follows:

  • Time per part: Cutting time for each individual part based on the rate table and cutting data in your ToolBox settings. It does not include setup time.

  • Parts per sheet: How many of these parts we have calculated can fit on the selected sheet, given the sheet's size. This is used in the material price calculations.

Note: We do not display the cutting path length anywhere at this time.
