Identifying open end points

Tempus Tools automatically identifies and shows open end points

After uploading the drawing, Tempus Tools will automatically detect any entities which have open endpoints. The issue can be viewed by clicking the warning icon. Some open endpoints may be acceptable for quoting purposes, if unacceptable the drawing must be corrected in a CAD program and re-uploaded to Tempus Tools:

To view the issue for evaluation, we recommend opening Drawing Doctor.

Any opened end point shows as a semi-transparent orange circle to highlight the gap:

If it's the outer profile that has a gap, then it prevents True Shape nesting from working. The part will nest with Rectangular Bounds regardless of your nesting settings, but it won't be prevented from nesting.

If the open endpoint is an internal path, then that's a cause for review, as it might actually be a fold line or some etched lines that are currently set to cutting.

To change the process from cutting to etching or folding, select the paths either via the layer selector or by clicking and/or dragging within the view, and then use the Process Type button to change the process from Cutting to one of the other 3 options:

  • Etching: price without a pierce, at the rate table's etching speed.

  • Folding: no cutting price, only a folding price. Set the folding source to "Drawing" to have this line automatically used to determine the number of folds and the largest fold length for the part.

  • Information: paths to keep on the part for viewing only - no effect on price.
