Adding and editing material

How to add and edit existing lengths of material in Tempus Tools for Rotary

Adding a new length of material

To add a new length of material to a material group, first open that material. To open it, use the search icon and select the material.

Search icon in materials

With the material open, select Add Record. A side menu opens for you to fill in the details of the length.

The fields are:

  • Profile: the shape of the length. The options are Square, Rectangle, Circle, Flat-sided oval, Angle, U channel, I-beam and T-beam.

  • Wall thickness: the thickness of the material. For I-beams, this is the flange thickness.

  • Web thickness (I-beams only): the thickness of the web, the part that joins the two flanges. Always fill this in. If it is blank or 0, the beam will not calculate correctly.

  • Width and Height: the size of the profile. For open profiles, see how each profile is measured. For circles, enter the diameter instead.

  • Material length: the total length of this record.

  • Unit cost: the cost to buy this length from your supplier.

    • Note: this is calculated from the unit rate, and changing it recalculates the unit rate.

  • Unit rate: the rate per kg/lb, if your supplier gives you one.

    • Note: this is calculated from the unit cost, and changing it recalculates the unit cost.

  • Extra markup: additional markup for this length on top of the material's standard markup. For example, for non-stock lengths.

  • Expiry: the date the cost of this length expires. Quoting with this length after that date shows a warning, prompting you to check whether the price needs updating.

  • Default material consumption mode: whether the material consumption for this length defaults to Parts per length, Part bounds or Full tube lengths.

When you have filled in the form, select Add to save the length.

Your new length now appears in the materials table.

Automatic matching: when a tube part is uploaded, Tempus Tools matches it to a length whose profile size and thickness are within 2% of the part. For I-beams, both the web and flange thicknesses must match.

Adding lengths in bulk with a CSV

You can export a material's lengths as a CSV from the Materials page, add or change rows in a spreadsheet, and import the file again.

For I-beams, fill in the WebThickness column as well as WallThickness, RecordWidth and RecordHeight.

Editing an existing length of material

To edit a length, open its material, then select the edit button on that record. You can edit one record at a time.

  • Unit rate: update the rate per kg/lb of the selected lengths.

  • Unit cost change: increase or decrease the cost of the selected lengths by a percentage.
