Adding 2D parts

How to upload 2D parts (DXF or DWG) to a quote

Updated yesterday

ToolBox enables a simple drag and drop method or click and browse to upload your 2D parts to an existing quote or a brand new one.

Drag and Drop

1. Create a new quote

or open an existing one.

2. Click the

button on the top right-hand side of the quoting window.

Select 'Add 2D Parts from the 'ADD PARTS' dropdown.

3. Select the 2D file(s) and simply drag them onto the ToolBox quote window.

The file upload pop-up

Drag the files into the drop zone or click the 'BROWSE FILE' button to select them from an email, folder or network location.

4. Once the files have been added, click the 'UPLOAD FILES' button to add the files to the quote.

If you see the warning "Three dimensional entities found," it means the part has a z-axis value. ToolBox can flatten z-axis values that are very small (0.1mm or less), but it won't flatten larger values because it could change the original drawing in unintended ways.

File size limit

There is technically no maximum file size limit enforced for part uploads, but if your file is larger than 4MB, it's a good indicator that your drawing is very complex and might need to be edited before upload.

A common issue we see is the upload of design files (like decorative screens) that were created with software that exports curves as hundreds of straight lines. This can cause issues in processing your drawings, as it's the number of entities (lines, arcs, splines, ellipses, etc) that can cause issues with processing your file.

Consider re-creating these drawings with less lines where possible, such as re-exporting the design file with a more coarse line approximation count if it's not possible to export with arcs.

Alternatively, if your file has lots of unneeded entities or lines that you can safely delete, you could delete them before uploading the file.
